Enrique Peñalosa
Former Mayor of Bogotá | Colombia
As Mayor of Bogotá in two non-consecutive terms, Enrique Peñalosa achieved some impressive milestones: He created TransMilenio – the world’s best bus-based mass transit, which moves 2,4 million passengers daily and has ever since served as a model to hundreds of cities – and an extensive bicycle network at a time, when only a few northern European countries had one. Enrique is responsible for high-quality urban development projects for more than 50,000 residents and a radical redevelopment of 33 hectares of the center of Bogotá, previously controlled by drug dealers and crime. Multiple greenways, hundreds of parks, formidable sports and cultural centres, large libraries and 67 schools – Enrique’s admirable work experience makes him an ideal advisor to local and national governments in Asia, Africa, Australia, Latin America, and the US as well as an inspiring lecturer. Deservedly, Enrique is member of a broad range of Boards across the globe, has received numerous awards and nominations, and shares his knowledge with millions of followers through his X account, TED Talk, and recently published book about “Equality and the City”.
