Besmira Dyca
Research Lead for the Urban Benchmark at World Benchmarking Alliance | Netherlands
Besmira Dyca is big into benchmarking! The private sector has a duty to ensure that there’s a sustainable future that works for everyone but can be clueless as to how to fulfil their role. Besmira sates that hunger by developing and implementing methodologies that assess the world’s biggest companies operating in urban areas and translates corporate sustainability frameworks and standards into measurable indicators. This is used to benchmark sustainability performances. This is therefore an essential part of their transition. So too is higher corporate accountability, which is also where Besmira seeks to make an impact by creating and supporting a multi-stakeholder movement towards it. By making the World Benchmarking Alliance’s results entirely open access, Besmira not only contributes to higher private sector transparency, but also facilitates closer collaborations with more than 400 allies representing organisations working at global, regional, and local levels all shaping the private sector’s contributions to achieving SDGs. At UF24, Besmira wishes to add to this impact further by inspiring critical thinking around the role of the private sector in urban sustainability, and especially how regulations and incentives can be effective levers of change.
