Christof Balles’ academic knowledge is based in geoscience, which he says is not really needed for his current job as IT Business Architect at the city of Freiburg – still, he’s very happy he studied it! Christof dedicates his current work to combining the digital transformation with sustainability efforts – a huge trend and great challenge at the same time. Through Freiburg’s smart city project DATEN:RAUM:FREIBURG, his team addresses pressing environmental topics and other important issues to make the city more liveable. Christof’s diverse team is also actively trying to establish “new work” in the context of government service, which is needed to react quickly and appropriately to implement efficient sustainability measures.
