One of my first actions as a mayor would be reimagining our energy system laterally for the future. The age of the internet ushered in a new distributive way of thinking and organizing, and fully applying these principles to the energy sector is a logical next step. Instead of the centralized, top-down methods of energy production and distribution previously embraced by society - largely via fossil fuels - it is time to pursue democratized processes based on renewables, which are inherently more accessible to all. Integrating these systems into municipal grids and enabling and empowering ordinary citizens to also produce and sell their own energy is the way of the future, and cities have already begun - and should continue - to lead on this front.
